University Payroll Theft Scheme

This is an advisory of a known phishing threat targeting university employees.

Advisory Detail

Research and Education Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC) has issued an advisory of a potential threat targeting university employees. In particular, there is a phishing email scam whereby university employees are being emailed about subjects relating to direct deposit account information relating to a salary increase. Though this is one type of threat, there may be a variety of other types of threats that can include such subject lines as:

  • Your Salary Review Documents
  • Important Salary Notification
  • Your Salary Raise Confirmation
  • connection from unexpected IP
  • RE: Mailbox has exceeded its storage limit.
